Architecture
A wide range of services based on the use of principle based design in
support addressing issues related to business and information
technology.
Neil Kemp is teamed with Chartwell
IRM for the delivery of Business Architecture using The Business
Transformation Enablement Program (BTEP) methods and tools being
developed by Treasury Board Secretariat
- Project Management
-
The management of large software projects or unique technical
solutions to meet specific business needs is a complex task.
Finding the balance of control and freedom based on the size and nature
of the project, the style and culture of the organization, and the
complexity of the solution is no easy task.
-
The application of the appropriate knowledge, skills, tools and
techniques to meet or exceed stakeholder needs and expectations from a
project results in a successful project.
- Program Management
The role of Program Management is distinguished from that of
Project Manager in that the former takes a higher focus.
Program Management is concerned with overall management and
coordination of numerous projects at the same time, whereas Project Management is concerned with the management of a single project.
Program Management is involved in strategic planning and policy
development; budget preparation and forecast as well as financial
reviews. It is concerned with the conducting of feasibility
studies and the preparation of approval documents required board
approval.
- Project Office Infrastructure
-
Tracking activity in large projects or programs that contain
multiple projects requires discipline to ensure the projects are
delivering to expectations, that the project managers are getting
the resources needed for success, and to alert management to both risks
and opportunities within the portfolio.
- Risk Management
-
Software projects are the most risky endeavors in business.
The impact and the probability of failure can be very significant.
This risk can be managed through a disciplined approach to the process of
project management.
-
- Metrics Development
-
The ability to measure is the foundation of the ability to
control. Without measurement decisions are made based on
opinion. With proper measurement strategies the facts can
be defended and optimal decisions made quickly.
- Mentoring
-
Project management skills can be transferred into an organization
at several levels. An important tool that can be used to help good
employees to adopt
new skills and new ways of thinking can be through a mentoring process.
- Process Assessments
-
There is significant evidence that the implementation of
standardized best practices for software development based on a defined
process improves the productivity of an IT organization. ISO 12207 has
been widely adopted as a major element of the Treasury Board of Canada's
"Enhanced Management Framework"
-
Using the first internationally accepted roadmap of a defined
process these assessments can provide information about the potential
return on investment to the organization from process improvement and
provide an indicative assessment of the relative compliance of current
practices to this accepted best practice.
Business and Strategic Technology Planning (service description under
development)
-
It is essential that technology deliver the maximum value to the
organization. The level of investment being made in IM/IT assets
is staggering, yet the returns do not approach the possibilities.
Organizational Readiness (service description under development)
-
Ensuring that an organization is fully engaged, understands the objective of the project and that each relevant member of management team understands the role they will perform, is key to
creating the environment needed for a successful project.
Project Reviews (service description under development)
-
At various points in a project it may be appropriate to obtain an
outside view of the state of the project. For example, if the
requirements has evolved significantly, as part of a change in
management or if the project is perceived to be troubled. Such an
assessment can identify remediation that can be carried out on the
project to improve its chances of delivery or to provide a "clean
slate" to the new management team.
Systems Architecture (service description under development)
-
Systems architecture addresses the form and style of the structure
of the system components. If these are not consistent with the
objectives of the system, the solution may not be cost effective, have
the desired useful life, or may even be unworkable.
